This is book #12 in the “Dark” series, and my next favorite after Dark Desire. Dayan, the gentlest of the Dark Troubadors, has to keep his lifemate, widowed and pregnant, alive and safe from both vampires and the society hunting them… all the while keeping her defective heart beating until the baby is born and until the healers can reach them from far across the ocean. An amazing story, and one of her best.
Dayan is different from the angsty, brooding Carpathians who (to be honest) are getting kind of same-old-same-old by now. His nature is more gentle, and his tenderness and caring and his fear for Corinne and the baby, come shining through. He readily puts his own needs aside to focus on Corinne’s health which he always, instantly, puts first. We also get to see the sweet, sad Cullen, whom we’d met in Dark Fire after he’d lost his fiancee to a vampire, find happiness with Corinne’s sister, Lisa.
