Set in medieval times, the story follows Simon as a lord’s bastard son who travels to his father’s enemy, Lord Fulk, seeking to become his page. Simon trains and grows, and eventually wins a Barony from King Henry. It’s an intriguing and engaging look into medieval life and events. Simon names his barony Beauvallet, and his descendent has his own book set in the Elizabethan world, named, naturally, Beauvallet 🙂
The romance doesn’t start until the second half of the book, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Simon’s life growing up! The romance is every bit as special, as Simon slowly wins over Lady Margaret Belremy’s heart despite the fact that he is the despised Englishman who led an army to bring her town under English control.
