RWA 2001 National
Convention
in New Orleans
Oh boy oh boy, did I have LOTS
of fun!!! So many wonderful people, and I got to meet some of my most
favorite authors, and made lots of new friends and acquaintances there.
And my biggest and best news... I had FOUR (yes, that's right, FOUR!)
invitations to submit my manuscript for Dancer and/or Bennett's Story... three
editors and an agent! I am so pleased!
Below are lots of pics and things (four whole pages worth!). I've been told that tables help the
page load faster if there are a lot of pics; I don't know if that's so, but I
definitely have a lot of pics, so I'm going to try it here... let me know :)

Here's
my friend and long-suffering roommate, Peggy Prince. We went out looking
for dinner the first night and wound up at Bubba Gump's (yes, there really
is such a place!). She had sauted shrimp and rice, and I had the
most incredible baby back ribs I've ever tasted! |
Yes, I was a little tired, and that's not
a lady-like "glow" that's sweat! It was way humid, even
after 10:00 at night! Not that we let a little thing like heat and
humidity stop us from partying :)
|
Peggy
and I, after leaving Bubba Gump's, ran into this really hunky carriage
driver on Decatur St. His name is Paul, and he drives a private
carriage which holds five people. Since there were only two of us,
Peggy and I opted to wait. He had the very faintest of accents, more
just a bit of twist to his words than an actual accent, quite
enchanting. And, of course, so cute we wished we could take
him home with us :) |
By
the time we found more RWA people, however, we couldn't find Paul
again! I ran into him when I was out on my own Saturday night, and
got these two pictures of him. |
Did I say partying? :) Not
long after parting company with Paul, Peggy and I ran into a group of
Desert Roser's. We looked for Paul but he was already gone, so we
went on and walked down St. Ann's St. to Bourbon St. where we checked out
a voodoo shop and lots of jazz clubs! |

Peggy and I had lunch at this outdoor
restaurant on Decatur, about two blocks or so past Cafe du Monde.
The quartet here was very talented, and worked for tips. |

At the same restaurant,
inside I saw this lovely lady who allowed me to take her picture... I only
wish I'd gotten a closer shot of her, she had the most lovely
face! |
This
scene in the lounge at the Sheraton is pretty typical of what it looked
like in the evenings. Lots of writers everywhere! The paper
stuck onto the railing you see here is telling people where to find a
particular chapter meeting. |
