My Epic Cross-Country Road Trip Adventure!

I am absolutely buzzing with excitement! This morning September 21st, I'm embarking on a Road Trip – driving cross-country from California all the way to New York's Hudson Valley, the setting for my paranormal romance series. It's been over 30 years since I've actually seen this place that's been living in my imagination, and I cannot wait to soak up every bit of inspiration!
This isn't just any ordinary trip. I'm timing it perfectly for my Mom's 90th birthday, and then my daughter Chrissy and I will head up to explore the Hudson Valley just as the fall colors are reaching their peak.

I have two very special places on my must-visit list. First, my grandfather's old house – which is the music conservatory he founded with his wife, her brother, and his wife. This beautiful place was the visual inspiration for the safe house in Wishes in a Bottle. Then there's the old Cannonball Factory, where they actually manufactured cannonballs during the Civil War (not a huge creative leap there!). I used this historic site as inspiration for the warehouse in Night Shift, where Toby & Tyr run their custom motorcycle shop and Antonio has his security business offices.

But wait, there's more! On my way home, I'm planning a side excursion to Lake of the Ozarks for a mini writing retreat, and I may (emphasis on may) stop in Las Vegas for 3-4 days of fun. Just me, my car, the open road, and 3½ to 4 weeks of pure adventure ahead!

I'm practically vibrating with anticipation – I'm almost all packed (yes, I have a checklist, because of course I do!), my car is loaded except for my laptop and my purse, and I even treated myself to an adorable personalized travel jewelry box just for this trip. Tomorrow morning it's just me, my purse, laptop bag, and two tumblers of iced tea, and off I go!

Oh, and I discovered the most incredible place called the Dominion House! Minus the turrets, this place is practically the West Side Inn come to life. The virtual tour online shows rooms with gorgeous wallpaper, priscilla curtains, vintage furnishings, and even a library! It's like stepping directly into one of my books. I half expect to walk in and be greeted by Angus and Renee!
