So the literary agent who had requested a partial of Wishes in a Bottle, has declined to request to see the rest… However!! It was such a great letter it made me want to stand up and cheer!!!! LOL!

I’m sorry to say that I’m not going to ask to see the rest of this manuscript. I wasn’t convinced of being able to sell it with the current tight market conditions. It didn’t seem strong enough for me to feel confident enough to take on this project.

I have to admit that part of my decision is due to my very full client list and having to be more selective at this time. So, I urge you to keep sending WISHES IN A BOTTLE out. There is merit in your work, Allie, and it’s possible that someone else would be interested in representing this manuscript.

So… although, well, yes, it was a rejection, at the same time, it’s very validating. She LIKED it, and she liked my writing. This sort of feeds back to last week’s blog post on Confidence as a Writer, and bolsters my (admittedly, sometimes wavering) confidence, and quite honestly it also adds to my motivation to write more. I amgood enough! I just have to keep writing and keep trying.

ADDENDUM: I sat and read this a hundred times, with that sentence about her full client list ringing in my ears. Generally, I’d assume that since she was rejecting Wishes in a Bottle, the first in 3-book “Wishes & Dreams” series, she was rejecting the whole series. BUT… what if she liked one of the other books in the series enough to make up the difference? So finally, I just wrote and asked her… ’cause you know what they say about assumptions, right? And she wrote write back, not just saying sure, query me, but asking for a partial!!!!

Go ahead and send a partial and synopsis of A GIFT OF JACINTH … I like your writing and hope there might be a project that will work for us.

So…. more validation!! Close! Very close!

And now... book #11 in The Magic of Wishes & Dreams

Yes, I know, just a few weeks ago I was going on about having reached 30,000 words in Book 10. No, I did not up and write another 60,000 words in the ensuing period of time. But I was happily hanging
