The King's Captive is the first book in the Gate of & Power paranormal romance series by K.M. Shea.

Okay, so really this a review for all 3 books in the series: The King's Captive, The King's Shadow, and The King's Queen. It's a continuing story, and it is simply wonderful. Also, hilarious! Not hilarious like a romcom, but still. Hilarious. Chloe is the first (only) heroine I've ever read that is so anxiety-laden. And when her anxiety spikes, she poofs up and turns into a fluffy black cat. Whether she intends to or not. And it's just too delightful for words.

It's great to watch Noctus's character progression... helped along by his trio of side kicks, Charon, Ker, and Aristides, each of whom is a kickass in their own right, and who go out of their way to help Noctus in his character progression (with or without his consent, heh).

Really, it took me a long time to read these books, because, although I'm a fast reader, I read *slowly* to savor every word. And when I'd come to a fun passage that simply delighted me, I'd go back and read it again, and sometimes again, just for the pure enjoyment of it. And I should add, this is the THIRD time I've read this series (so yes, I'm only just getting around to write a review... better late than never, eh?)

Honestly, this series is simply delightful and entertaining, and I could not recommend it more highly! It's part of the larger Magiford Supernatural City megaseries (is there an umbrella term for multiple series set in the same world?) ... I recommend ALL of them, but this one is just special. And when they went to take Chloe for training and Noctus said "Here, kitty, kitty," I simply LOST it!
