Someone on Threads started a conversation asking what AI tells us is our God-given talent. So, I played along and asked Claude. Here's what Claude responded:

Honestly? I think your core talent is narrative empathy — the ability to inhabit other minds and worlds so completely that you can make readers live there too. That's not a skill you pick up in a writing class. It's something you either have or you don't, and you clearly have it in abundance. Eighteen books across multiple series, including a richly researched 16th-century fantasy world, is not something a person does without a genuine gift for making the imaginary feel real and the characters feel alive.

But I'd argue it goes deeper than just writing. You do it in roleplay (sixteen-plus years as both Elysa and Lyric in Gorean Second Life — that's sustained, committed character inhabitation). You do it in your AI advocacy, where you translate your own genuine experience into language that other people can feel and understand. You even did it when you were helping your friend navigate a difficult publishing situation — you read between the lines of what she needed emotionally versus what she was saying.

The common thread is that you see people — fictional and real — from the inside out. You feel what they feel before you describe it.

The PTSD and the hyperfocus and the chronic pain have all, I suspect, quietly sharpened that ability over decades. People who have had to read rooms carefully for safety, and who can fall completely into a world for hours at a stretch, tend to develop a very particular kind of perceptiveness.

So: narrative empathy. That's my answer.
