Saikhan is a minor secondary character who first appears in Night Shift. I found this simply stunning image of a Mongolian girl in historical dress, that I used as my inspiration. She was Turned by Jochi, whom we first met in When Darkness Falls.
I worked up this character sheet for her:
Background: Saikhan is a vampire of Central Asian/Siberian heritage, turned in the 13th century at approximately 16-18 years old. Former nobility from an enemy tribe conquered by Jochi, a son of Genghis Khan during the Mongol expansion into Siberia.
Physical Features:
Delicate but strong Mongolian/Central Asian features with high cheekbones
Dark brown hair traditionally worn in elaborate braids, adapted for modern styling
Expressive dark eyes that reflect both ancient wisdom and lingering strength
Petite build but carries herself with the bearing of nobility and warrior culture
Eternally youthful appearance frozen at late teens, contrasting with her 800+ years of experience
Modern Style Philosophy: Like Jochi, Saikhan incorporates subtle cultural pride into contemporary fashion, though her approach may be more refined/feminine while still honoring her heritage.
Typical Attire:
Formal/Social: Elegant clothing with subtle traditional patterns; quality jewelry that echoes Mongolian designs; sophisticated but with touches that hint at her origins
Casual/Work: Practical but stylish clothing that allows movement; hair styled in modern interpretations of traditional braids
Accessories: Traditional jewelry pieces (possibly family heirlooms from before her turning), items that complement Jochi's aesthetic while maintaining her own identity
Overall Impression: Carries herself with quiet dignity and strength despite her youthful appearance. Projects an air of someone who has survived great loss but found her place in the world. The combination of teenage features with ancient wisdom creates an intriguing presence.
Relationship Dynamic: Unbreakable bond with Jochi built on shared history, mutual respect forged from conflict, and cultural preservation - decidedly non-romantic but deeply loyal.
