This kind of interaction is very on-point for this family:

Son-in-law: I’m going to walk the dog.

Daughter: Is this the new "I’m going out for a cigarette"?

Me: At least he’s taking the dog.

Son-in-law: I’m going to open the door and let the dog back in, and then you’ll hear me screeching away in the car.

Me: Wait a minute! That’s my car.

Son-in-law: I’m a damn abandoning my family, what’s a little grand theft auto?

Me: Oh! I can get the insurance and buy a new electric car.

Daughter: There you go.
